Many mental health professionals tend to focus too much on diagnosing disorders and deficits. They are educated and trained to medicalize and look for “abnormal” character and personality traits and ignore the connections to unhealthy social and cultural conditions. Many of our current mental health diseases are created and perpetuated by inequality, exploitation, prejudice, and neglect. Some mental health professionals are too immersed in artificial laboratory situations. The education and training of professional diagnosticians, is itself in need of being diagnosed!
