birds in a barrel's mission is to release creative nonfiction into the wild.

40 Days & 40 Writes is its first project.

I had two Grandmothers, well, I actually have three since I am adopted, but let's give a warm shoutout to Grandma Gillie. I know that she loved me. I know that she had twin daughters and I reminded her of, Bev, who passed away from pneumonia at two months old. She was always kind and had a warm embrace. She was beautiful and wore a delicate perfume. I believe she experienced a lot of pain and loss in her life. I believe she did the best that she could and raised some extraordinary children. They have the best stories to tell about her every family gathering. She was my first experience with death at a young age. I had to touch her corpse to confirm she had actually left her body because I was seven. Gillie was one of a kind.
