I do not have recurrent anxiety dreams. I reserve most of my anxiety for wide awake, middle of the night, real life anxieties! Those may be anxieties about family, health, the weather, the state of the environment, the government, the economy……and on. Anxiety dreams, those dreams that wake me up, sweating, out of breath usually include a chase. I’ve run away because I’m being threatened, because there is a natural disaster, I’ve done something unforgiveable, or I’ve just had it with real life. The adrenaline rush that accompanies the chase also provides the great sense of relief that my real life anxieties are nothing compared to my dream, but prevents me from falling back asleep!
