Glenn

At the time it was a comfort
that he said we’d reunite
in our eightieth decade.
it helped me be okay

with letting him go in the now
of then. But I had a dream of
fighting an alligator and
running away from him

which let me know that
I never ever wanted to go back.
Never. Ever. And there’s no room
for regret. I wasted some time,

but there’s nothing new in
that. Lately I’ve come to find
through a friend of a friend of
a friend, he’s on the lam, out

of state, fleeing payment for
the two new children who suffered
having him for dad. I’m glad
that wasn’t me. I’ve said

I wished him dead, but I don’t
care that much any more; won’t
take him back, I’m not afraid,
I trust my heart to keep its head.
