Here's Looking at You, Kid

That moment in Casablanca.

Rick and Elsa toast in hope for the future.

Hope for a future where everything is possible.

They have found each other and found love.

That moment epitomizes the human condition of wishing, hoping, dreaming, and loving--even in the darkest of times.

In a way, I wish the story stopped there.

That moment carries the capacity for hope in the midst of great ambiguity.

Even the film itself is in black and white.

I am living in the gray of in between.

Waiting for the next big development to happen.

Like those usual suspects in Casablanca, I wait, and wait, and wait.

Afraid to hope.

Afraid to hope for the wrong thing.

Isn't that what T S Eliot warned us not to?

No wonder everyone went to Rick's.

For All of This, I am Most Grateful
