birds in a barrel's mission is to release creative nonfiction into the wild.

40 Days & 40 Writes is its first project.

I have lived with quite a variety of people, with my family growing up, roommates in college and law school, and wives.

I have lived with introverts and extroverts, thinkers and feelers. Some people who wanted to address conflicts right away, some who wanted to avoid dealing with conflict, and some who seemed to be more interested in causing conflicts.

I would probably say the most challenging person with whom I have lived is myself. I have high expectations of myself and become frustrated with me.

One of the people with whom I have lived was a pretty strong introvert. She preferred to avoid conflict, and told me she had never seen her parents argue. I am more extroverted and can be more argumentative. Slowly, but surely, we worked things out.

It was a little unnerving to live with her. There were times when it felt like I was living alone. She seemed not to have any strong feelings about what or where to eat, for example. She had a few nonnegotiable preferences, but most things were set in jello.

She tended to enjoy spending time by ourselves, watching television or reading. I, on the other hand, am often looking for a new adventure.

Part of our differences came from our experiences. She had not lived with many, if any, of the people before me except her family. I had lived with different people in different places.

I think my experiences helped me be patient. Her background made her a little more hesitant.
